There was more heartbreak for Warriors FC as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Geylang International at the National Stadium.

Warriors started the game well. Sahil Suhaimi curled a shot wide after just three minutes.

However, Geylang took the lead through a Fumiya Kogure penalty after Hafiz Sulaiman was adjudged to have brought down Fairoz Hasan in the box. They doubled their advantage three minutes into the second half. Zulfadli Zainal had an attempt cleared off the line by Ismadi Mukhtar. However, Shawal Anuar reacted fastest and convert the rebound.

After conceding the second goal, the Warriors’ players woke up from their slumber and began to dominate. The chances kept coming, but a combination of brilliant goalkeeping from Zainol Gulam and bad luck meant that they could not find a breakthrough eventually.

In the 58th minute, Sahil saw his shot saved by Zainol’s right foot in a one-on-one situation. One minute later, the keeper again came to his team’s rescue by tipping the former’s free-kick around the post. Sahil then saw his long-range effort pushed away by Zainol who dived at full-stretch.

Warriors French forward Jonathan Behe saw a header come off the crossbar and also sent his penalty shot onto the post in injury time.

After the match, a disappointed Warriors FC Head coach Mirko Grabovac lamented, “We must concentrate as a team and not give away any more unnecessary penalties.” He added, “In the last thirty minutes, you could see that we created so many chances. It was just not our day when even Behe missed a penalty. The players must be more composed and need not necessary always use so much power when shooting.”
