Warriors FC continued their good form after notching a second win in a row by beating Tampines Rovers 3-2 at Our Tampines Hub in the Great eastern-Hyundai Premier League.
Warriors drew first blood in the 11th minute. Tajeli Salamat was judged to have been brought down by Jordan Webb in the box and French forward Jonathan Behe duly converted from the spot.
The away side should have doubled their lead after 23 minutes. Behe did well to square the ball to Ignatius Ang, who saw his goal-bound shot headed to safety by Tampines defender Irwan Shah.
The second goal eventually came after 32 minutes. Behe controlled the ball well before sending an unstoppable shot from outside the penalty box which gave the opponent goalkeeper Syazwan Buhari no chance.
Behe’s hat-trick was completed a minute past the hour mark. Despite the attention of three Tampines players, the Frenchman managed to evade them and take the ball past an on-rushing Syazwan and slotting it into the goal.
Warriors look to be in cruise control of the match, but the home team had other ideas. Two goals from outside the box by Khairul Amri and Jordan Webb in the last six minutes meant that the away side had to endure a nervy end to the match. Eventually, they hung on and saw out the match with a one goal lead.
Warriors FC Head Coach Mirko Grabovac said after the match, “Most of the players played very well today. You can see what Behe can bring to the team when he is fully fit. However, we have to focus and not concede the late goals like we did today after 85 minutes.”
A delighted Warriors Captain Fukuda Kento added, “I am delighted with the team performance. You could see that everybody on the field fought tenaciously to the end. This win over Tampines will give us confidence, but we must not be complacent and prepare well for our next match.”
