Warriors FC suffered an unfortunate defeat during their first home match of the Great Eastern-Hyundai Singapore Premier League at the Warriors Arena. Irfan Fandi’s header from a free-kick in the second half was enough to settle the tie for the Young Lions.
The home side could not be faulted for their effort though. Try as they did, the ball just would not enter the goal. In fact, the woodwork denied Warriors on three occasions. As early as the first minute, Fadhil Noh saw his header tipped onto crossbar by Young Lions goalkeeper Zharfan Rohaizad. In the 44th minute, Warriors midfielder Poh Yi Feng’s long-range effort crashed off the crossbar. In quick succession, Fadhil took the loose ball and sent it onto the crossbar yet again.
Things got worse four minutes from time. The home side was reduced to 10-man when substitute Delwinder Singh was given his marching orders by the referee after collecting his second booking.
I am disappointed with the result but not the performance. It was just one of those days where we had so many chances but could not finish them.
