If at first you do not succeed, try, try, try again. This happened to Warriors FC as the nine-time champions finally clinched their first win of the season in 11 league matches. They beat Hougang United 2-0.
The first half saw little goalmouth action as both sides struggled to carve out clear-cut chances. The closest Warriors came to scoring was when Jonathan Behe was denied by Hougang goalkeeper Khairulhin Khalid at his near post.
The French forward should have opened the scoring late into the second half. Substitute Sahil Suhaimi played a through ball to Behe, only to see him denied by Khairulhin in a one-on-one situation.
With three minutes remaining, the deadlock was finally broken. Shamil Sharif who just came on won a penalty when his shot was judged to have hit the arm of Hougang defender Jordan Vestering. Behe duly converted from the spot.
Behe then doubled his tally in injury time. He dispossessed Khairulhin who had come out of his box to collect the ball, before tapping the ball into an unguarded net.
After the match, a delighted Warriors Head Coach Mirko Grabovac said, “This first win came as a result of great work and effort from everybody. Not winning any games before has put some pressure on us.” He added, “We played better than most of our previous games today. We will prepare hard for our next match and hope to get a good result.”
